New podcast in your app: A conversation with value

Conversation between two people in everyday life will mostly be driven by a mutual desire to be in dialogue and respect each other. Exchange views. Reach an agreement. When the conversation is really good, both parties will be curious and open to each other’s points of view.

Give space, keep quiet and listen when the other person speaks and ask questions.

Being  curious  about each other has several positive effects. We can become wiser by listening and accommodating. And then the person that the other person is curious about will feel recognized by the direct feeling that there is a person who seems to be genuinely interested in what he or she is telling.

This is the type of conversation that we need to have more of in the health sector. And in today’s dewy  podcast  you can meet some who have made it a regular part of their clinical work to have this type of conversation with the patients and relatives who come to the Blood Diseases Department at Rigshospitalet.

They have developed the concept ‘ Conversation about life and treatment ‘, which is the starting point for a larger effort to  help patients and their relatives  decide on important questions already early in the course of the illness, so that treatment and care can adapt to the patient’s wishes and goals .

The nurse and doctor involved in the episode say they think they have become  better clinicians . Patients and relatives have become more satisfied.

They have changed a culture and the management has backed up – with good help from a stubborn implementation agent, Katrina Pitt Winther, who has in a way ‘curled’ the effort to success

IT TAKES TO LONG!

This is often the argument against engaging in thorough value-based conversations. Therefore, the meetings in the outpatient clinic have been reorganized to create time for the thorough conversation. You can hear more about how in the episode.

This about being  curious and open  in a conversation is something I’m quite concerned about. That is why, among other things, I have taken a course in something called  Teamcoaching,  where I have learned how to facilitate a team or a group of people to work better together.

It is therefore an important podcast episode that you can listen to this time, which I hope you will be inspired and motivated by. I became one myself when I did the interview.
